What is melasma?
Melasma is a skin condition which causes increased patches of pigmentation primarily on the face, although it can also occur on other sun-exposed areas of the body. While it can occur in men, 90% of cases occur in women. It generally appears as a brown or tan patch of discoloration occurring on the cheeks, forehead, upper lip or around the mouth. Melasma can be triggered by sun, hormone therapy, or pregnancy, in which case it is called chloasma. Although it is not a harmful condition, it can have a dramatic effect on one’s appearance. To a trained professional melasma is easy to identify, however, it is important to see a qualified skin therapist in order to appropriately treat it correctly. At Neue Skin Clinics, our therapists have extensive experience treating many skin issues, including melasma. Neue skin therapists can help you overcome its visible effects by restoring your skin to a clear, healthy, glowing, pigment-free state.
